What Kind Of Diamond Certificate Matters

unnamed

Let’s talk about the differences between EGL and GIA certificate reports.  Both are distinct, independent labs that issue reports on diamonds.  These reports tell you the size, shape, color, and clarity of your stone.  On the surface, they should be identical, but they are not.
I am here to tell you my own personal experience with the EGL reports. Right now, I have a client who has a large diamond that he wants to sell.  He had it appraised and showed me the paperwork.  He gave me a copy of the “appraisal”, an additional report that also came from EGL. I suggested he send his diamond to GIA and get a lab report from them.  A GIA certificate is more widely accepted and tends to be more accurate, so if the diamond is a good one, one can get a greater return on one’s money.
My client doesn’t want to spend more money on this diamond, but he wants to sell it at a fair price.  How can he get a fair price on his sale of the diamond if he isn’t sure is information is correct?  The buying and selling of diamonds go by the GIA grading standard.  He has a choice — accept a lesser value on his diamond because he doesn’t have an accurate report, or spend a little more on a GIA certificate and perhaps gain a lot in value.  It’s going to cost him upfront regardless, so it’s a matter of how much he stands to lose in the end.
Time and time again many people have sent in their EGL diamonds to GIA and the results are so different from the EGL reports in a bad way. I attached the image above to show how wide the disparity is in the definition of color from the 2 labs. The GIA gives the stone an “I” color;  EGL says it’s an “F”.  Just by looking at the two stones side by side you can see the difference. The price for an “F” is far different from and “I”.
Back to trusting who you are buying from.  The GIA “J” color is still higher in color than the EGL “F” color. We haven’t even touched on clarity grading, but it follows the same road.
Everyone makes mistakes — even GIA . While not perfect, the GIA labs in New York and Carlsbad are the best so far.
None of this is brain surgery, but it takes accurate  information!  Play to win!  Be smart about what you are buying and selling.

The Heart Shaped Diamond

LOVE,

Everyone loves love! I LOVE LOVE!! I am in LOVE ! There is nothing like it!

In the diamond world, the Heart Shaped Diamond are cut in many shapes of hearts. Fat, little wings (the shoulders of the Heart shape), Flat wings, or shoulders. Long or skinny. All these different variations have soo many different looks for everyone to LOVE!

Oh! Strangely enough, of the total number of women in the world, only 1/2 of them like the Heart Shaped Diamonds. Odd, right. Who would have thought?

Because of that Heart shaped diamonds are a rare commodity! So when it comes to pricing Heart Shaped diamonds. When cut, the Heart Shaped diamond creates a lot of waste in the rough, original diamond crystal. Most diamond dealers don’t carry them and when you find a dealer who does, you will be paying more for them for that reason.

I like this shape because it is LOVE to me, and I Love LOVE!

How Corny am I! ?

Yes I am Corny!

Have a good start of the week!

Emerald cut diamonds – What shape???

ImageImageImage

I was thinking about Emerald cut diamonds and what shape I should buy.  I have attached 3 images of Emerald cut diamonds, and these are just a few variations to consider. Emerald cut diamonds are labeled “Step Cut” diamonds which means there are facets that are long and like steps. Simple angles. But there are also different considerations, like should there be big cut corners or not? Should the overall shape be a rectangle or square, or even off square? Long and thin, or a wide emerald cut. So many looks and so many beauties!

My favorite Emerald cut is the 3rd one here . The wider rectangle with larger cut corners. What this does in the sparkle department is just amazing. The corners have step facets but since they are on the longer or larger side. The corners will give off more sparkle than their regular rectangle counter part. Put this together with the right cutting angles or proportions you will now have a VERY sparkly Emerald cut diamond! There are so many Emerald cut diamond that, unfortunately, have much less sparkle because of the way the facets are cut, but by cutting bigger corners or having a higher crown, you can achieve the “hall of mirrors” effect as in the true Asscher cut diamond.

To me, it is important to know this basic information so you will know what you will want and what you are looking at with Emerald cut diamonds. And there is so much more to know.  Let me know if you need any personal help, I am here and able to guide you in you wants and needs.

Have fun today! Stay cool, it is going to be a hot one today!
